Northern State Source: Al-Dabbah Stable, Weapons to Be Removed from Cities

Sudanhorizon – Maryam Abshir

A senior government source in Sudan’s Northern State said the state’s Security Committee has issued directives to bring weapons under control, remove them from cities, and confiscate arms from civilians and tribal groups. The source added that the security situation in the city of Al-Dabbah has returned to normal, is fully under control, and that conditions across the state remain stable and secure.

Speaking to Sudanhorizon on Friday, the source said the timely intervention of the Sudanese Armed Forces, which were stationed close to the scene, helped contain the crisis, prevent further escalation, and restore calm and security to the city. The source attributed the escalation of the incident at the time to the widespread proliferation of weapons among civilians and tribal communities.

The source added that Al-Dabbah has become a key transportation crossroads and a meeting point for various tribes, a situation that has contributed to the spread of weapons and the occurrence of security disturbances.

The source also denied claims that displacement camps are a source of weapons, stating that 99 percent of those living in the camps are women and children who were forced to flee to the state because of the war. He noted that the state government is currently working to establish kindergartens to accommodate displaced children.
