Sudanese Digital Platform Reaches UN Awards Finalists

The “Sudabase” platform has been selected as one of 15 finalists in the Digital Frontiers category of the United Nations Digital Awards (Digital@UNGA 2026), organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), from among more than 1,500 entries from 146 countries.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Communications on Wednesday said that Sudapass was selected after a review and evaluation of submissions by an independent committee of experts, bringing the Sudanese national digital identity project to the final stage in the Digital Frontiers category. Minister of Digital Transformation and Communications, Ahmed Al-Dirdiri Ghandour, said, “Sudapass reaching the finals of the UN Digital Awards places one of the projects with which Sudan is building its digital future on an international platform. Digital identity enables citizens to prove their identity and access services securely, and provides state institutions with a unified foundation for delivering more efficient and interconnected services. This is where Sudapass’s value lies: in providing a reliable foundation for accessing services.”
He added, “I say to the Sudapass team: you have not only brought a Sudanese project to an international platform, but you have also proven that the youth of this country are capable of transforming knowledge into achievement and ambition into something the world sees. Sudan possesses minds that deserve our trust and pride, and what you have achieved today reminds us that the future of this nation will be written by its sons and daughters through their knowledge, work, and determination.”
This category focuses on pioneering and future-oriented projects that responsibly utilize technology to address challenges and contribute to building a more inclusive digital future, based on criteria including governance, future-readiness, measurable impact, and scalability.
Sudan’s reaching the finals represents a significant international milestone for Sudan and reflects the achievements of national talent in building one of the foundations of digital government. A trusted digital identity provides a unified and secure foundation upon which to build, connecting government services and transactions, thus facilitating citizen access and enhancing security and efficiency.
The winners are scheduled to be announced in New York on September 21, 2026, during the United Nations Digital Awards ceremony.
