Foreign Minister’s Extensive Activity on the Sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement Summit

Sudan’s Foreign Minister and Minister of International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi El-Din Salem, held several official and unofficial meetings on the sidelines of his participation in the current Non-Aligned Movement summit, held in the Serbian capital, Belgrade.

On Tuesday, the Minister discussed bilateral relations with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, in the presence of his Somali counterpart, Abdisalam Abdi, in light of the shared challenges facing both countries, and the necessary coordination within the IGAD framework and the Red Sea littoral states.

The Minister also held meetings with the Zimbabwean Minister of Defense and the Minister of the Interior of the Democratic Republic of Congo, briefing them separately on developments in Sudan and the Sudanese government’s initiatives to establish peace in the country.

The Minister discussed on Monday with the Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister ways to develop the growing relations between the two countries in light of recent bilateral activity and the agreements signed between them. He also held talks with the Serbian Deputy Minister of Agriculture and the Serbian Presidential Advisor, briefing them on the developments in Sudan in light of the war ignited by the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation also held courtesy meetings with the Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister, the Malian Foreign Minister, the head of the Zambian delegation, and the Speaker of the Gambian Parliament, who headed his country’s delegation.

The Non-Aligned Movement is celebrating the 65th anniversary of its founding, which took place in Belgrade, the capital of Yugoslavia at the time, and is now the capital of Serbia after the country’s division.
