Doctors Warn of Humanitarian Catastrophe at Daqris Prison as Death Toll Rises to 215 Detainees

Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The Sudanese Doctors Network expressed grave concern on Wednesday regarding the deteriorating and tragic humanitarian conditions inside Daqris Prison in Nyala, South Darfur State, revealing a shocking death toll of civilians subjected to arbitrary detention.
The network reported, based on information documented by field sources, that the number of deaths among detainees has risen to some 215 during May and June, this year
The medical organization attributed this high toll to the outbreak of diseases and epidemics within the prison, the torture and ill-treatment of prisoners, and the lack of even the most basic healthcare and humanitarian conditions in the detention environment.
In a related context, a report issued by the network highlighted the case of 31 detainees, including minors, who were transferred from Daqris Prison to Nyala Hospital more than two weeks ago despite not suffering from any illnesses.
The network confirmed that the fate of these detainees remains unknown, amid growing concerns for their safety and lives, especially given reports that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militias are forcibly drawing blood from detainees to treat and save their wounded in military operations.
The Sudanese Doctors Network said it strongly condemns these grave violations against civilians, demanding an immediate end to arbitrary detention.
It also called for immediate access for humanitarian organizations and medical teams to detention centers, and for a transparent investigation into the fate of those who were taken under mysterious circumstances to Nyala Hospital and have not returned. The network stressed the need to guarantee the right to treatment and medical care for all the sick and injured.

The network issued an urgent appeal to the international community and human rights and humanitarian organizations, urging them to take swift action and pressure the RSF militia leadership to protect civilians and ensure that those responsible for these violations are held accountable under international laws and conventions.
