Sudan Government and WHO Pledge to Strengthen Cooperation

Federal Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohammed Ibrahim met in his office in Khartoum on Thursday with the new World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in Sudan, Dr. Abdel Nasser Abu Bakr, to discuss the current health situation in the country, including challenges arising from the ongoing conflict, as well as opportunities for recovery and strengthening the health system.

The WHO said on its official X account that its new Representative in Sudan, Abdel Nasser Abu Bakr, expressed his desire to strengthen the partnership between the two institutions to help revive Sudan’s health system.

Dr. Abdel Nasser also reaffirmed the WHO’s commitment, as well as his personal pledge, to advancing the health recovery agenda while leading a strong response to health emergencies aimed at ensuring that everyone, everywhere in Sudan, has access to essential and life-saving healthcare.

Separately, Abdel Nasser Abu Bakr wrote on his official X account that he was “grateful to H.E. Dr. Haitham Ibrahim, Federal Minister of Health, for welcoming me today in Khartoum.”

He said the two sides “agreed to strengthen the partnership between the World Health Organization and the Sudanese Ministry of Health to support the recovery of the health system and address Sudan’s urgent humanitarian health needs.”
