Coordination Between the Sudanese Government and the AOAD to Ensure the Success of the Agricultural Season

During his meeting in Port Sudan on Wednesday with Dr. Ibrahim Al-Dukhairi, Director General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), and Dr. Abu Bakr Al-Bushra, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, he reviewed the government’s preparations in coordination with the AOAD to ensure the success of the upcoming winter agricultural season.
Dr. Ibrahim Al-Dukhairi, Director General of the AOAD, revealed the availability of improved wheat seeds and efforts to secure fertilisers and pesticides from friendly countries that have expressed willingness to supply them for the agricultural season.
The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, on his part, not only emphasized the importance of activating the role of the AOAD but also expressed his strong commitment to expanding its ongoing activities in Sudan. These activities, currently focused on the Halfa Agricultural Project and the Red Sea State, are set to be expanded to other promising agricultural areas, contributing to balanced agricultural development goals and achieving sustainable food security.
The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning disclosed that the government has made arrangements to ensure the success of the upcoming winter agricultural season, including the provision of necessary funding and urgent needs such as improved seeds, pesticides, and fertilisers.
Discussions also covered activating external support for agriculture through organizations. The Minister of Finance highlighted the importance of coordinating the work of these organisations, which are designated as third-party partners for accessing external funding, with local technical authorities to identify actual agricultural needs according to the approved standards. He also stressed the need to ensure funding reaches producers on time to ensure the season’s success.
The minister pointed out the necessity of reducing administrative costs for these organisations and confirmed his commitment to providing a temporary headquarters for the AOAD to enable it to carry out its tasks effectively in Sudan.
