IGAD Executive Secretary: Attacks on Civil Infrastructure in Port Sudan Must Stop Immediately

Djibouti – Sudanhorizon

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has expressed its deep concern and unequivocal condemnation of the recent drone attacks targeting vital infrastructure and civilian areas in Port Sudan.

Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, the IGAD Executive Secretary, said in a statement issued today, on Thursday, and seen by the Sudanhorizon news website, that these acts of violence “pose a serious threat to civilian lives and threaten to exacerbate the already dire humanitarian and political situation.”

Dr. Workneh added, “These attacks on critical infrastructure are unacceptable and must stop immediately.”

He noted that “Port Sudan has long been a vital humanitarian and logistical lifeline for millions of Sudanese. Any attack on this vital hub exacerbates humanitarian suffering and hinders the delivery of urgent aid.”

The Executive Secretary affirmed the Authority’s unwavering commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Sudanese crisis, urging “all parties” to cease hostilities without delay and engage in a comprehensive and constructive dialogue. He reiterated IGAD’s full commitment to all stakeholders in support of efforts to protect civilians and maintain regional stability.
