A High-level Sudanese Delegation Participates in of Islamic Development Bank Group’s Annual Meetings in Baku

A high-level Sudanese delegation, headed by the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Mohamed Nour Abdel-Daim, and including the Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, Amina Mirghani, is participating in the 51st Annual Meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group, Baku, Azerbaijan, from June 16 to 19, 2026.
The Sudanese delegation is expected to hold a number of bilateral meetings with officials of the Group and representatives of member states and financial and development institutions to discuss financing opportunities, development partnerships, and support for priority projects in the coming phase.
The annual meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group are among the most prominent economic events in the Islamic world. They bring together ministers of finance and economy, central bank governors, and representatives of financial and development institutions and the private sector to discuss issues of sustainable development, Islamic finance, investment, economic integration, food and energy security, and ways to enhance cooperation among member states.
On the sidelines of the meetings, the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Mohamed Nour Abdel-Daim, met on Tuesday with the Regional Director of the Islamic Development Bank Group, Nour El-Din Mabrouk.
The two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation between Sudan and the Islamic Development Bank Group. The meeting also addressed a number of priority issues, most notably the rescheduling of Sudan’s debt to the Bank and mechanisms to support the country’s efforts in the economic recovery and reconstruction phase.
The Sudan News Agency quoted the Minister of State as emphasizing the importance of the Islamic Development Bank Group playing an active role in supporting reconstruction and development projects in Sudan. He noted the government’s commitment to providing the greatest possible guarantees and facilities to partners and donors, which will contribute to encouraging the flow of financing and expanding the scope of development projects in the coming phase.
The meeting also discussed ways to complete and implement projects funded by the Islamic Development Bank Group, most notably the Al-Qadarif Water Project and the Atbara and Setit Project, in addition to a number of programs and projects related to developing basic services, improving infrastructure, enhancing employment opportunities, building capacity, and empowering youth.
For his part, the Regional Director of the Islamic Development Bank Group, according to the Sudan News Agency, affirmed the Group’s commitment to continuing cooperation with Sudan and supporting its development efforts. He pointed to the importance of ongoing joint coordination to complete existing projects and explore new areas of cooperation that serve the country’s development priorities and economic recovery.
The meeting comes as part of a series of bilateral meetings held by the Sudanese delegation participating in the Group’s annual meetings, aimed at strengthening development partnerships and mobilizing support for priority projects during the reconstruction and economic recovery phase.
