Tijani El-Sissi to Sudanhorizon: External-Backed Power Bids Will Deepen Sudan Crisis

Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Moussa

Dr. Tajani Sisi, head of the Sudanese National Mobilization Forces, said that the “Samood” alliance is seeking to rearrange its components by developing the principles declaration signed last December, noting that the alliance and its allies are working toward agreement on a roadmap to end the war in Sudan.

In an exclusive statement to Sudanhorizon on Saturday, Sisi said that “Samood” must recognize the scale of the complexities facing the Sudanese crisis, foremost among them the negative external interventions that represent the main reason for the continuation of the war and the widespread violations committed against Sudanese citizens. He explained that the Sudanese crisis has become more complicated because of these interventions, which requires the participation of all Sudanese in determining the country’s future through an all-inclusive Sudanese dialogue.

Sisi stressed that attempts to build alliances to return to power through an “external lever,” while excluding some stakeholders, will not lead to sustainable peace. Rather, he said, such efforts will deepen the country’s political and security complications.

He emphasized that any political settlement that is not based on broad national consensus and the participation of the various Sudanese forces will not achieve the desired stability or put a final end to the crisis facing the country.

It is worth noting that the “Samood” alliance is holding meetings these days in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, to discuss a number of political issues related to ending the war, arrangements for the political process, and the future of civilian alliances in Sudan.
