Sudanese Foreign Ministry: UAE Ambassador’s Residence in Khartoum Was Not Targeted
Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry stated that the UAE had relocated its embassy and diplomats’ residences from Khartoum to Port Sudan, the administrative capital of the Red Sea state in eastern Sudan. At the same time, it denied any bombing of the residence of the Abu Dhabi ambassador in Khartoum.
In a statement seen by the Sudanhorizon news website, the Foreign Ministry said, “The property that the UAE government claimed was bombed, which was not targeted at all, is owned by a Sudanese citizen. The rebel Janjaweed militia raided it, and it is not used as a diplomatic residence.”
The statement added, “The UAE embassy, like other embassies whose premises in Khartoum were targeted by the Janjaweed militia, which the UAE supports following the outbreak of the UAE’s aggression war, moved to Port Sudan and turned the premises into military barracks.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that it had reviewed statements from some Arab sister countries, the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the Secretary-General of the Arab League regarding the UAE government’s false claims that its ambassador’s residence in Khartoum was bombed by the Sudanese Armed Forces. The armed forces denied these claims, emphasising their commitment to the sanctity of diplomatic premises and adherence to international laws and customs.
The Ministry further stated, “The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked more than 40 diplomatic missions, as well as international organisations and UN agencies. These incidents were reported repeatedly by Sudan’s permanent mission in New York before the Security Council, including the UAE’s own mission, which did not condemn these disgraceful acts.”
The Foreign Ministry noted that in a display of misusing the platform of the United Nations General Assembly, the head of the UAE delegation repeated these false allegations in an attempt to cover up his country’s disgraceful role in Sudan and its violation of international law, the UN Charter, the Arab League Charter, and all international customs, attempting to disrupt Sudan’s relations with its Gulf neighbours.
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry pointed out that the Security Council’s expert team report confirmed that the UAE is the source of arms and funding for the terrorist militia. This was also corroborated by international investigative media reports, which revealed the methods and routes for delivering arms supplies to the militia, including exploiting the UAE Red Crescent’s emblem for this purpose. It further noted that no less than 200,000 foreign mercenaries are fighting alongside the rebel militia funded by the UAE. Sudan has complained, supported by details and documents, to the Security Council against the UAE for its aggression on Sudan and its direct involvement in the killing and grave violations against the Sudanese people.
The Foreign Ministry reiterated Sudan’s full commitment to the sanctity and protection of diplomatic premises in accordance with the Vienna Convention. It emphasized that the UAE embassy, like other diplomatic missions, has relocated to Port Sudan and continues to operate there without any harassment, despite the disgraceful role of its government in the war on Sudan and its people.
In a related development, media outlets quoted the Sudanese Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, who presented a photo claimed to have been taken today (October 1st), showing the building in question still intact.
