Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The Sudanese Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Darfur Regional Governance Law, one of the provisions of the 2020 Juba Peace Agreement signed between the transitional government and several armed groups.
In a statement, the Cabinet said, “During its regular meeting this afternoon in Khartoum, chaired by Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris, the Cabinet approved the draft Darfur Regional Governance Law for 2026, presented by Minister of Justice Abdullah Mohammed Darf.”
The Prime Minister emphasized the need to strengthen the spirit of national unity and social integration among all components of the Sudanese people and regions, affirming that Darfur is a cherished part of the nation and that the entire national will is united in its efforts to liberate it by supporting the armed forces and the Sudanese people in their fight against the “rebel terrorist militia.”
The Governor of Darfur region, Minni Arko Minawi, commended the Cabinet for approving the Darfur Regional Governance Law for 2026 with such cohesion and consensus, after years of its being considered as a draft law. The law, in accordance with the Juba Peace Agreement, regulates arrangements for power and wealth sharing, resource management, and governance in the region. It also grants the regional government broad powers in managing executive, development, and service-related matters.
