Sudanese Army Rejects US Sanctions on Army Commander

Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The Sudanese Armed Forces issued a statement rejecting Thursday’s US decision to sanction the President of the Sovereign Council, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, describing the action as “unfair”.
A statement from the office of the official spokesman for the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) said that Al-Burhan is “the leader of the Sudanese nation and leads the war of national dignity, which our forces and people lead against the mercenaries and terrorist militias of Al-Dagalo” and that referring to any measures that could affect any of the Armed Forces leaders is wrong.
The statement stressed that these unjust measures will not deter the Sudanese Armed Forces “from carrying out their legal and constitutional duty of defending the country and its people and securing the safety of its territories against mercenaries, agents and their supporters at home and abroad. We are driven by a firm determination, resolve and national will that shall never wane, and reinforced by the unlimited support of our people until the elimination of the last rebel, mercenary and agent.”
The US Treasury Department announced Thursday that it had sanctioned Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, for what it said was an obstructive role in the country’s peace process.
