Sudanese Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Jibril Ibrahim revealed ongoing efforts to establish new strategic partnerships to enhance economic cooperation with the People’s Republic of China.
During his meeting at the ministry on Wednesday with the acting Chinese ambassador to Sudan, the minister highlighted continuous efforts to operationalise the “Heidoub” port on the Red Sea. This port is a joint project between the two countries, focusing on livestock exports. He also emphasised overcoming the obstacles hindering its operation.
Furthermore, he discussed plans to create a new partnership by establishing a world-class slaughterhouse in the region, designed to add economic value to Sudan’s livestock exports and create new job opportunities. Both sides agreed on the importance of developing mutual economic relations and for Sudan to benefit from the $50 billion funding the Chinese president announced during the China-Africa Cooperation Forum Summit. This fund is intended to finance infrastructure and service projects across Africa.
For his part, Chinese acting chargé d’affaires, Zhang Xianghua, reiterated China’s commitment to encouraging Chinese companies and investors to enter into new partnerships with the Sudanese side. He urged investing companies to resume operations, complete projects in Sudan, and begin implementing new ones.
