The Vice President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Malik Aqar, called on the international community, stressing their crucial role in supporting Sudan in rebuilding what was destroyed by the war and providing political and developmental support to the government.
This came during the Vice President of the Sovereignty Council’s address after the conference on developing health services in the states of eastern Sudan on Thursday, which was held in the Arkawit resort, east Sudan, after deliberations on working papers presented by specialists in various health fields and lasted two days.
The conference recommended unifying official and popular efforts and directing them towards strengthening and developing the health system to achieve a flexible system that responds to health changes in the eastern states. The recommendations, with their potential to attract and direct support and material and technical contributions from international and local donors, philanthropists, and businessmen to various health projects, offer a beacon of hope for the health system in Sudan.
The conference recommendations called for mobilising society and its various activities to contribute effectively to developing health services.
The working papers dealt with the current health situation in the three eastern states, the epidemiological situation there, means of combating epidemics, community health promotion programs, and prospects for improving them.
The planning directors in the three states presented working papers focusing on the health system, the epidemiological situation, the status of health services, and specialised services. The conference sessions, which started on Wednesday, included deliberations on specialised working papers by experts in the field, including Dr. Babiker Al-Maqbool, Epidemiology Consultant and former Director General of the General Administration of Emergencies and Epidemic Control at the Ministry of Health. The papers included health insurance, human resources, rehabilitation and development of health institutions, and projects to localise precise specialities.
The acting Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, who addressed the opening of the conference and delivered the recommendations to the Vice President of the Sovereignty Council, stressed that the conference aims to strengthen the partnership in health and the various efforts to support it from the international community, friendly and sister countries, associations and international organisations working in the health sector, and to upgrade and develop the health system in the eastern states of Sudan.
