The Sudan war, which has approached a year and a half since its outbreak in mid-April of 2023, last year, has affected all segments of Sudanese society, including plunder, loot, killing, captivity, displacement, displacement and asylum… However, the children segment was the most affected. In contrast to the thousands of Sudanese children who were lost as a result of random blogging, there are many times more of them facing an unknown educational future as the war continues. Its geographical area expands, but what is shocking is what was revealed by shocking information obtained by the Almohagig news agency through an interview with the UNICEF official (Mira Nassar) about The health and nutritional situation that millions of Sudanese children have reached and the obstacles facing the organisation and partners to deliver humanitarian supplies, which makes the situation catastrophic if not remedied with the required speed, so what was stated in the dialogue:

How is the condition of children in Sudan in light of the current war conditions and the possibility of reaching them?

Of course, UNICEF works with all its partners to reach vulnerable children throughout Sudan, regardless of their identity or location.

The war lasted for a year and a half. What effects did it have on children, and what was the impact on the country and the regional region?

The impact of more than a year of war, displacement, disease and deprivation on 24 million children in Sudan is horrific; without urgent action and additional resources, the country risks a generational catastrophe that will have severe implications for the country and the region.

What is the extent of the humanitarian needs required?

Humanitarian needs have reached record levels. In 2024, UNICEF aims to provide humanitarian assistance to 9.9 million people, including 7.6 of the most vulnerable children in Sudan.

What are the estimates of the numbers facing a food disaster?

An estimated 8.9 million children are acutely food insecure, and 3.7 million children under five are expected to suffer from acute malnutrition in 2024. Rates of severe acute malnutrition in children under five are exceptionally high, with Nearly 730,000 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition.

And where are their areas of presence according to the organization’s follow-ups?

Some children who require continuous, life-saving care live in areas cut off from humanitarian assistance.

Is there a possibility for UNICEF and its partners to reach those affected?

Certainly, humanitarian access remains mainly hampered across borders and conflict zone lines to Darfur, Khartoum and Kordofan.

Bureaucratic barriers, communications outages, looting, and denial of access to affected populations, as well as the lack of safe and sustainable movement of humanitarian supplies and personnel across the front lines, all severely hamper the speed and scale of the aid response.

What is required to save those affected and avoid the disaster?

Of course, there is an urgent need to streamline administrative requirements, including inspections and clearance processes, to facilitate operations across lines of contact and access to humanitarian aid through all crossing points, especially from Chad and South Sudan, in line with the international commitments and pledges made in Jeddah.

Persistent telecommunications outages further hamper humanitarian operations by delaying disengagement operations, aid truck movements, field assessments, and mobile payments to local community-based organisations providing life-saving assistance.

Does the organisation have any message it can send to the parties to confront the disaster?

We call on all parties to the conflict to provide the humanitarian system with safe and unhindered humanitarian access using all routes, across conflict lines and Sudan’s borders.
