Dr. Mohieddin El-Tohamy, Head of the Agriculture and Food Security Department at IGAD, warned on the worsening phenomenon of food and water insecurity in the region, due to the influence of climate phenomena such as drought and floods, in addition to conflicts.

In his speech at the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit, held in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, in which he spoke on behalf of the Executive Secretary of IGAD, he pointed out that the countries of the region depend heavily in their economies and livelihoods on traditional agriculture,  as soil nutrition and fertility play an important role in determining Agricultural production, which in turn contributes to the economic and social well-being of rural communities.
