Social Cohesion at Forefront as JEM Inks Agreement with Shiba Dirar Alliance
Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Mousa
Dr. Mohamed Zakaria, spokesperson for the Sudanese Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and Secretary of the Movement’s Information Secretariat, said the agreement signed between the Movement and the East Sudan Alliance Forces and Parties, led by General Shiba Dirar, is a memorandum of understanding designed to strengthen coordination between the two organizations.
In an exclusive interview with Sudanhorizon, Zakaria said the Justice and Equality Movement has consistently advocated for the unification of Sudan’s political and civilian forces and the strengthening of the country’s internal front.
He said the agreement is intended to achieve several objectives, foremost among them reinforcing social cohesion, strengthening the country’s social fabric, and combating hate speech.
Zakaria expressed confidence that the memorandum of understanding would have a positive impact on Sudan’s broader political landscape. He added that the Justice and Equality Movement remains open to cooperation with all communities across northern Sudan, the Blue Nile, eastern Sudan, and western Sudan.
He pointed to previous mergers and new members who have joined the Movement, including factions from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) – Juba Peace Agreement, whose roots, he noted, extend across the Nuba communities of South Kordofan, the Nuba Mountains, and the Blue Nile region.
According to Zakaria, these developments reflect the Movement’s commitment to becoming a truly national organization representing all parts of Sudan.
Earlier on Sunday, the East Sudan Alliance Forces and Parties, led by General Shiba Dirar, and the Justice and Equality Movement, led by Dr. Gibril Ibrahim, signed the memorandum of understanding in Port Sudan to enhance coordination, joint action, and unified national efforts.
According to a statement issued by the Military Media Office of the Eastern Sector and Central Region Command, both parties emphasized the importance of strengthening national unity and enhancing political and military coordination to address the challenges facing the country. The signing ceremony was attended by political leaders, tribal representatives, and members of civil society.
