Details of Merowe Dam Power Plant Attack Revealed

The Minister of Energy and Oil, Dr. Mohi El-Din Naeem, explained that the transformer station at the Merowe Dam power plant was attacked by drones at approximately 3:30 am on Monday, January 13, 2025, and through the grace of God there were no casualties.
He said that the attack led to the burning of the Al-Markhiyat line reactor, and work is now underway to examine the switches and cables, and the losses are being assessed to determine urgent needs.
The minister added that the power station was not affected, including the turbines, transformers and auxiliary equipment, indicating that the station went out as a result of the attack, and one backup unit was later operated to supply the station and the Northern State, and it also went out of service, and efforts are now underway to return it to service.
He pointed out that the rest of the transmission lines, including the Atbara and Al-Markhiyat lines, are awaiting inspection by the engineers of the transport company and the possibility of returning them to service as soon as possible.
The minister stressed the need to take further measures to protect vital facilities and installations in the country.
