For the First Time Since Suspension of Membership: Sudan Addresses the AUPSC

Addis Ababa – Mariam Absher – Exclusive
Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the African Union and Ambassador to Addis Ababa, Ambassador Al-Zain Ibrahim Hussein, addressed an informal session of the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC) on Tuesday afternoon, focusing on member states with suspended memberships.
According to reliable diplomatic sources, Sudan’s statement, delivered by its representative, was comprehensive and detailed. This marks the first time Sudan has addressed the PSC since its membership was suspended in October 2021, following the measures taken by General Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council.
Information obtained by Sudanhorizon News indicates that Sudan’s address to the PSC at its headquarters in Addis Ababa is part of ongoing consultations to support suspended member states in navigating the challenges of political transitions.
The representative’s statement received significant attention, particularly its critique of the background of suspension decisions and the flawed interpretation that fails to consider the specific circumstances of each country, the concept of unconstitutional changes of government, the context of such changes, and the effectiveness of sanctions, which often exacerbate situations rather than resolve them.
