Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, Amina Mirghani, emphasized the pivotal importance of the banking sector in supporting economic stability, stressing the need to direct financing toward productive projects, particularly in vital sectors that directly contribute to strengthening the national economy.
Mirghani explained, during the inauguration on Thursday of the headquarters of the Farmers Commercial Bank, that national and commercial banks have achieved significant successes in recent times by supporting various productive groups through facilitating financing procedures and expanding microfinance coverage. This has provided broad opportunities for small-scale producers to establish projects that have effectively contributed to boosting production.
She noted that the banking sector in Sudan had been subjected in recent times to systematic destruction, leading to the loss of a significant portion of its assets. However, she affirmed that the determination and resilience of workers in the sector were decisive factors in its gradual recovery, reflected in the return of bank headquarters and branches to operate from the capital, Khartoum.
She also praised the sacrifices of the armed forces and supporting units in the “Battle of Dignity,” the defeat of the rebellion, and the restoration of security and stability in large parts of the country, which paved the way for the return of economic and service institutions.
For his part, the representative of the Khartoum Governor and Secretary-General of the state government, Ahmed Al-Mustafa Ali, described the return of the Farmers Commercial Bank to operate from within the capital as a clear indicator of Khartoum’s recovery and the restoration of security and services.
Al-Mustafa stated that the state government has made significant efforts to remove the effects of war and reduce security disturbances as part of a comprehensive plan for national recovery and reconstruction. He affirmed the continuation of efforts to restore all basic services and improve the general environment to encourage citizens to return, noting the important role of banks in supporting economic activity and stabilizing daily life.
In the same context, the General Manager of the Farmers Commercial Bank, Dr. Najm Al-Din Khalafallah, announced the resumption of the bank’s operations from within Khartoum through its Al-Qasr Street branch, contributing to efforts toward recovery and stability in the state. He explained that since its establishment in 1960, the bank has played a key role in supporting the agricultural sector by providing production inputs and necessary financing to farmers, affirming that the bank will continue to fulfill its developmental mission in the coming phase.
Khalafallah added that the bank’s return to its main headquarters represents an important step toward rebuilding confidence in the banking system and enhancing its ability to support productive sectors, particularly agriculture, which remains a cornerstone of the Sudanese economy.
