Civil Aviation Chief: International Flights Returning to Khartoum Airport After Army Gains
Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Moussa
The Director General of the Sudanese Civil Aviation Authority, Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mohammed Abdullah, explained that meetings were held with the Middle East Regional Office in Cairo, which provided the full assistance required and helped pave the way for the announcement reopening Khartoum Airport to international flights.
In an exclusive statement to Sudanhorizon news website, Abdullah said they met over the past two days in Cairo with the regional office, the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, and the Egyptian Air Navigation Company. He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Middle East Regional Office in Cairo and the International Civil Aviation Organization for their assistance and support in meeting safety requirements. He also thanked the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority and the Air Navigation Company for their continued support.
Abdullah added that, following ongoing consultations and coordination, as well as inspection, monitoring, and auditing operations at airports—particularly Khartoum Airport, which underwent several rounds of auditing with continuous follow-up in all sectors—these procedures were carried out to uphold the principles of transparency and safety and to comply with international aviation safety regulations.
He officially announced the immediate resumption of international air traffic from Khartoum Airport, noting that only company-related procedures, announcements, and system activations remain. He stated: “Some airlines will begin immediately, and I do not believe the remaining companies will take long.”
Abdullah confirmed that the drone operated by the Rapid Support Forces militia, which struck Khartoum Airport days earlier, did not affect the procedures for restoring the airport’s air navigation operations in any way. He congratulated the Sudanese Armed Forces on their victories, saying: “Without these victories, we would not have reached where we are today.” He also thanked and congratulated the Sudanese people for their patience and endurance through these hardships.
