Egyptian Education Ministry Orders Schools to Use Official Maps of Egypt Showing the Southern International Border

Egyptian Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Abdel Latif has ordered schools to use official maps of the Arab Republic of Egypt issued by the Egyptian General Survey Authority during the new academic year.

According to Circular No. (15387), issued on August 14, 2026, the maps must clearly show Egypt’s southern international border at latitude 22°. Schools are prohibited from using any other unapproved maps or map models, regardless of their source.

The ministry also instructed schools to exercise the utmost accuracy when incorporating maps into presentations, research, studies, reports, official correspondence, and other official documents, while adhering to all regulations governing their use.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education and Technical Education denied that any decisions had been issued regarding a change to the officially announced start date for the 2026–2027 academic year in public schools.

The ministry said that, “as of now,” the official start date for the 2026–2027 academic year at public, official, private, high-achievement, and Japanese schools will be Saturday, September 12, 2026, in schools located in governorates where Saturday is not a weekly day off.

The Ministry of Education and Technical Education also decided that the start date for international schools would differ from that of public schools, confirming that the 2026–2027 academic year at international schools will begin on September 6, 2026.
