The Vice President of the Sovereign Council, Malik Agar Ier, has directed the National Health Insurance Fund to expand its services to provide healthcare for more citizens during the ongoing war and its associated challenges, which have negatively impacted the health sector in Sudan.
During a meeting on Wednesday with the General Manager of the National Health Insurance Fund, Dr Farouk Nour Al-Daim, Agar was briefed on the Fund’s performance over the past period and its plans for the future.
In a press statement, the Fund’s General Manager highlighted the Fund’s 96 partnerships with international organizations and governmental institutions across various Sudanese states. He also shared details of the Fund’s quarterly strategic draft for the period 2025–2028, which has been fully prepared and is set for approval in January under the supervision of the Vice President.
The General Manager reported that the Fund currently provides health insurance coverage to 650,000 subscribers, including returnees from Ethiopia and South Sudan, displaced persons, and members of the regular forces. He noted that an additional package launched in July extended coverage to 80,000 more subscribers.
The Fund delivers healthcare services through 841 outlets, including 675 health centres and 174 hospitals, which collectively represent 75% of the country’s operating health institutions.
He added that the Fund has resumed providing health services in Dinder, Suki, and Abu Hajar following the liberation of Singa City and continues to expand its efforts in these areas.
