Sudan Expresses Solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the International Labour Organization

Geneva – SUNA

Sudan’s Permanent Representative in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid, affirmed Sudan’s full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding the complaint filed against it by the Organization.

The ambassador, who is a member of the ILO Governing Body, stated during his address on Friday to the closing session of the 355th meeting of the International Labour Organization’s Governing Body that the complaint does not meet the legal and procedural conditions required to activate this exceptional mechanism. He emphasized that it does not reflect the actual reality of the constructive cooperation between the Kingdom and the ILO, particularly in light of the wide-ranging and systematic reforms undertaken by Saudi Arabia in recent years, which included vital areas—foremost among them enhancing social protection and reforming labor mobility.

The Sudanese representative also noted that the complaint referenced agreements that have not been ratified by the Kingdom and were included among the circumstances of the complaint, in addition to other issues still under review. He called on the Governing Body to reject the complaint due to its failure to meet objective criteria and urged support for the ongoing cooperative and technical track between the Kingdom and the ILO. He stressed that this cooperative approach helps maintain the balance of the Organization’s mechanisms and encourages countries collaborating with the ILO to continue their reform efforts, praising the pioneering reforms being implemented by the Kingdom to improve the work environment and align it with international standards.
