Humanitarian Aid Commissioner: Humanitarian Assistance Has Not Exceeded 28%

Sudanhorizon – Hala Hamza

Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, Salwa Adam Bunya, has revealed that foreign assistance for humanitarian work in the Sudan has not exceeded 28% of the actual need in the country.

HAC commissioner held a meeting on Wednesday with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Tom Fletcher, and his accompanying delegation, currently visiting the country.

The said meeting dwelt on the humanitarian situation and the extent of the suffering faced by displaced people in areas besieged by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, as well as the displacement of families to safer areas.

Bunya called for lifting the siege on the cities besieged by the militia and urged the delegation to convey a message to the United Nations and the international community, so that they may change their perceptions of the situation in Sudan.

She underlined the need for the international community to know all facts about the humanitarian situation in Sudan in order to implement its resolutions in a clear and transparent way, thus saving the country from this war, which is being fanned by a number of countries.

The Commissioner presented a detailed account of the violations, looting, pillaging, and genocide perpetrated against the Sudanese civilians, targeting unarmed civilians, most recently in El Fasher, where aid and food deliveries were obstructed.

She urged the UN official, Fletcher, to pay a visit to Ad-Dabbah in the Northern State to witness firsthand the true humanitarian situation and the suffering of families displaced from Darfur, including children, women, men, and the elderly, who walked to that area seeking shelter and protection. She emphasized the government’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of its citizens.

Tom Fletcher has meanwhile confirmed that his visit to Sudan at this time was to assess the humanitarian situation and understand the Sudanese government’s needs. He explained that the visit aimed to listen to and evaluate humanitarian efforts and identify humanitarian requirements.
