Sudan Representative to Geneva: The International Community Must Act Now
Geneva – Sudanhorizon
Sudan’s Permanent Representative to Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid Hassan, has presented the compelling shocking documentations about the atrocities and tragic situation since the militias overran El Fasher, North Darfur and, before that, Bara, North Kordufan.
The Permanent Representative has affirmed in a press conference held Tuesday in Geneva that the horrific scenes broadcast by the militia elements by themselves via social media, depicting summary executions, torture, intimidation, and corpses mutilation, have awakened the world’s conscience.
He stated that the militia has met and exceeded all criteria for classification as an outlawed terrorist armed group, emphasizing that the international community’s continued disregard for this reality constitutes tacit complicity with the perpetrators of these crimes.
Regarding the current humanitarian situation in El Fasher, the Permanent Representative explained that hundreds of civilians remain trapped inside the city, prevented from leaving by the militia and used as human shields, while aid teams are denied access to them.
Hassan has stressed that the international community is obligated to change its approach to the crisis in Sudan, moving from statements of concern to decisive practical measures, and to condemn and hold accountable the United Arab Emirates, which continues to supply the militias with weapons and mercenaries, in flagrant violation of Security Council Resolution 1591, the arms embargo imposed on Darfur.
The representative said International media outlets are urged to fulfill their ethical and professional role in exposing what is happening inside El Fasher, stressing that the terrorist militia is practicing systematic terrorism, including against journalists, and preventing any independent coverage of events, after cutting off communications networks, the internet, and even satellite services in order to isolate the city from the world and conceal the crimes committed against civilians.
