UN Security Council condemns RSF atrocities in El-Fashir and calls for accountability
New York – Sudanhorizon
Members of the United Nations Security Council have expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in the city of El-Fashir and its surrounding areas in North Darfur, western Sudan, and strongly condemned the grave violations committed by Rapid Support Forces (RSF) elements against civilians there.
The Council held an emergency session on Sudan on Thursday, during which members denounced the RSF attack on El-Fashir and the devastating impact it has had on the local population.
Council members recalled Resolution 2736 (2024), which demanded that the RSF lift the siege on El-Fashir, immediately cease hostilities, and de-escalate the situation in the city and its environs.
The members strongly urged the Rapid Support Forces to comply with the provisions of the resolution.
