Sudanese and Russian Delegations Meet in New York

The Sudanese delegation participating in the meetings of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, headed by the President of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, held an important meeting on Friday with the Russian delegation led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The meeting reviewed the course of bilateral relations between Sudan and Russia and ways to activate, develop, enhance and strengthen joint cooperation relations in various fields, in a way that achieves the strategic interests of the two countries.
The meeting also touched on a number of issues of common interest.
The President of the Sovereign Council briefed the Russian Foreign Minister on developments in the situation in Sudan and the efforts made to achieve security, stability and peace in Sudan.
Al Burhan commended the role that Russia has continued to play in helping and supporting Sudan and supporting peace and stability in the country, noting Russia’s supportive positions for Sudan in international and regional forums and its keenness to sustain security and stability in Sudan.
The Russian Foreign Minister, Lavrov, has meanwhile affirmed his country’s support for Sudan to enjoy security and stability, underlining his country’s keenness to continue joint cooperation with Sudan and strengthen bilateral relations.
Lavrov has praised the strong relations between Sudan and his country. The meeting was attended from the Sudanese side by Ambassador Hussein Awad Ali, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mohamed Abdullah Idris, Sudan’s Ambassador to Washington, and Ambassador Al-Harith Idris, Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.
