Sudan’s Representative to Geneva: Human Rights a National Priority, Not a Dictate from Abroad.

Geneva – Sudanhorizon
Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the Human Rights Council, Ambassador Hassan Hamid, has emphasized Sudan’s rejection of the decision aimed to extend the mandate of the Fact-Finding Mission, as voted on Monday.
At the conclusion of the Council’s session, in which the Resolution submitted by Britain was adopted, Hassan Hamid commended the states that voted against the extension and those who supported Sudan’s position, noting that they have actually voted for the sake of the United Nations Charter and the established principles therein regarding state sovereignty and respect for state decisions.
The delegate wondered, “If the purpose of adopting this resolution is truly to protect human rights and achieve justice, does this mean that the human rights mechanisms for Sudan, especially the country office of the High Commissioner on the ground and the appointed expert, are now powerless and useless?”
He continued, “If the answer is no, then the authorization of an additional three-person mechanism, pursuant to a resolution that equates the rebel militia with the Sudanese Armed Forces, confirms that its purpose is nothing more than political blackmail and pressure on Sudan, especially after the successive victories scored by the Sudanese Armed Forces over this terrorist militia.”
The permanent representative went on to ask, “How can a resolution that avoids even mentioning by name the state that sponsors the rebel militias and supplies them with weapons, military equipment, and mercenaries contribute to stopping the fighting, protecting civilians, or protecting human rights?”
He continued, “Didn’t the sponsors of this resolution read the dozens of reports supported by conclusive evidence that proved the UAE’s involvement in supporting the terrorist militia? Why did the resolution remain silent therein?”
He emphasized that the sponsors of the resolution are protecting this state that sponsors the terrorist militia.
Ambassador Hamid emphasized that thee Government of Sudan remains committed to its people. Human rights are an absolute national priority for Sudan, not merely a foreign mandate imposed by resolutions. The Sudanese Armed Forces, which the resolution’s sponsors attempted to equate with a rebel militia, continue to fulfill their duty under the constitution, and behind them are the entire-Sudanese all people.
