Irrigation Ministry Warns of Flash Flooding in 3 States
Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The Early Warning Unit at the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation predicted on Saturday flash floods alongside the banks of the White Nile, Khartoum, and the Nile River.
The unit issued a red alert, warning of extreme danger in the White Nile, Khartoum, and the Nile River, predicting flooding along the Nile belt due to increased water flow from the Blue and White Niles.
It stated that the danger will extend from Saturday until Monday evening.
It indicated that floodwaters are likely to submerge fields and valleys, urging residents to avoid low-lying areas and move crops, fodder, and animals to higher, water-resistant locations.
It urged residents to put in save location all important documents, food, drinking water, and emergency supplies in water-resistant containers. It also urged people to follow authorities’ instructions if an evacuation order is issued.
The unit warned of the danger of floodwaters, as they may come into contact with power lines, leading to death.
