Sisi: 2030 Will Mark the End of My Presidency of Egypt

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Saturday put an end to speculation over his presidential term, confirming that 2030 would definitively mark the end of his presidency and that the matter was no longer open for discussion.

Sisi made the remarks while attending a graduation ceremony for new classes of students from the military academy and military colleges. He said his departure from office by 2030 was a settled matter, stressing his full commitment to leaving the country with strong institutions and capable citizens who could continue the path of development and stability.

The Egyptian president emphasized that the main objective in the coming period was to strengthen the foundations of the state and empower young national talent across various sectors, ensuring a smooth transition and reinforcing the stability of Egypt’s institutions.

“My duty is to preserve the state and hand over its flag held high and flying proudly,” Sisi said, describing the armed forces as the cornerstone of national security and the nation’s shield and sword.

He explained that preserving the armed forces was a national duty shared by all Egyptians. Protecting the homeland, he added, was a collective responsibility that begins with the family, which had been and would remain the fundamental pillar in building the individual.

Sisi stressed that the awareness of the Egyptian people had always served as a strong bulwark safeguarding the state’s cohesion, affirming that national solidarity and unity would remain decisive factors in protecting the country.

Last Wednesday, Sisi said during an educational seminar that “the state has a constitution that we approved, and no one will touch it.” His remarks appeared intended to rule out the possibility of amending constitutional provisions to allow him to run for another term.

Under the current constitution, Sisi, 71, is not eligible to run in the next presidential election.
