Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The Ministry of Health in Khartoum State, in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, launched on Monday the initiative of temporary mobile clinics for non-communicable (chronic) diseases (NCDs). The initiative aims to review chronic cases within the community, provide healthcare, detect new cases, reconnect patients who discontinued treatment with available services, refer them to higher levels of care, and enhance community awareness.
During his speech, Dr. Ahmed Al-Basheer, Director of Curative Medicine and representative of the Director-General of the Khartoum State Ministry of Health, confirmed that the mobile clinics represent a qualitative leap in the provision of therapeutic and awareness services. He explained that, in addition to the mobile clinics, the initiative will intensify coverage in more than 210 health centers and 34 hospitals over two weeks. He expressed hope that the accompanying awareness efforts will turn into regular lectures inside health institutions, contributing to improved health awareness and service quality.
For her part, Atefa Mohamed, Director of the General Department of Preventive Medicine in Khartoum State, said that the Department of Non-Communicable Diseases had been “hidden and neglected,” noting that this initiative will represent a real start for its activation and for linking the mobile clinics with fixed health centers to ensure service integration.
Zainab Al-Rayeh, representative of the Federal Ministry of Health, stated that this step comes amid the security challenges the country is experiencing, highlighting the great efforts that have been made to ensure the continuity of basic health care services, especially regarding chronic diseases. She emphasized that cooperation with the World Health Organization and the Children’s Diabetes Association has contributed to reducing risk factors such as smoking through intensified health messages.
Fath Al-Rahman Bin Awf, representative of the World Health Organization, considered the organization a strategic partner of the Ministry of Health, praising the efforts of the Non-Communicable Diseases Administration in coordination and implementation, and stressing the importance of including a psychologist in the mobile clinic teams.
