United Nations: Increased Return of Sudanese from Abroad, Most from Egypt

Cairo – Sudanhorizon
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) revealed yesterday (Wednesday) that 803,000 Sudanese have returned from neighboring countries, following the Sudanese Armed Forces’ (SAF) takeover of the states of Al-Jazirah, Sennar, and Khartoum. The return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) also occurred from the safe states to which they had fled.
The World Food Program (WFP) stated that “UNHCR has recorded the arrival of 803,000 returnees and refugees to Sudan, most of them from Egypt.” It indicated that the increase in return is linked to the SAF’s recapture of the states of Al-Jazirah, Sennar, and Khartoum.
Sudanese and Egyptian charitable organizations, institutions, and foundations are actively responding to the desire of thousands of Sudanese to return to Sudan. Most notable among these are the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar’s initiative, coordinated by the Sudanese Consulate General in Aswan; the Isnad organization’s initiative to support those affected by the war; the Land of Goodness initiative, sponsored by Sudagaz; and the Defense Industries Organization initiative, which is the most regular. To date, it has facilitated 136 flights, responding to the desires of more than 6,800 men, women, and children, along with their families, and arranging their return to the states of River Nile, Gezira, Sennar, and Khartoum.
Separately, press reports indicated that the competent authorities in the Northern State received 1,700 Sudanese citizens by the end of last June, arriving from the border triangle area via the Argeen crossing as part of the ongoing evacuation operations in coordination with the Egyptian side.
