Democratic Bloc Spokesperson to Sudanhorizon: We’ll Present PM with Vision for Solutions, Plan Second Cairo Meeting

Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Musa

Dr. Mohamed Zakaria, the official spokesperson for the Democratic Bloc, explained that there are extensive informal consultations with the Egyptian government. These consultations are preemptive and include various Sudanese political forces, as part of coordination for holding a second dialogue meeting in Cairo, the date of which has not yet been determined.

Zakaria said in a statement to the Sudanhorizon news website that communications with the Egyptian government have not ceased and that Egypt has not ceased its efforts to find a solution to the Sudanese crisis and stand with the Sudanese people in their ordeal. He added that consultations with the Egyptian government are underway to discuss the idea and the nature of the required measures, as well as coordination with the Sudanese government to achieve a successful Sudanese meeting in the next phase.

The official spokesperson for the Democratic Bloc confirmed that the appointment of a civilian prime minister with full powers is one of the bloc’s demands. He noted that the bloc could have joined the military component after October 25, 2021, but that they remained loyal to the bloc’s program, which centers on a democratic transition under civilian leadership. He added, “We did not enter into any partnership with the military component at that time, and we continued to call for a civilian prime minister. We welcomed the idea when it came to fruition and praised it.”

Zakaria continued: “There were several consultations between the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the political and societal forces supporting the state. These consultations took place bilaterally, not collectively, until a prime minister was chosen.” He explained that the Democratic Bloc formed a committee to formulate a comprehensive program to resolve the current political issues, the war, the security situation, and how to proceed with reconstruction and mend the social fabric.

He said, “We will present this vision in writing to the Prime Minister so that the executive branch has the competence to support the army in achieving victories on the battlefield and ending the rebellion.” He added, “We will assist the Prime Minister to initiate a Sudanese political dialogue that will bridge the gap between the Sudanese parties.” The official spokesman for the Democratic Bloc pointed out that it is at the core of the work of political forces to provide the executive branch with programs and visions, and the Prime Minister has the right to take from them whatever he wants. He said, “We will strive to be in continuous and open communication with the Prime Minister and support him to overcome crises.”

He added, “We see in Dr. Kamel Idris a choice that suits his people, and that he has what qualifies him to lead the executive branch, and that he has foreign relations and administrative capabilities that the government will benefit from in developing performance. He also has extensive relations with political and civil forces that qualify him to initiate a Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue, and he can think and plan, which helps in addressing the current challenges.” He believed that the challenges require addressing them in parallel, and perhaps it is wise and a priority to address the economic issue, people’s livelihood, health, education, and treating the effects of the war, and to continue improving Sudan’s foreign relations. He added, “However, all issues, including dialogue, require addressing them in parallel as well.”
