Sudan’s Finance Minister and CBS Governor Discuss Strengthening Cooperation with the Arab Fund

Sudan’s Finance Minister, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, Amina Mirghani, met with Dr. Fawzi Yousef Al-Hanif, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development in Kuwait to discuss ways to enhance economic and financial cooperation between Sudan and the Fund.
The Minister emphasized Sudan’s commitment to developing its longstanding partnership with the Fund, praising its role in financing several development and strategic projects in Sudan. He also expressed appreciation for the grant provided to support health projects and its importance in bolstering the health sector and addressing humanitarian and development needs.
Dr. Jibril Ibrahim explained the importance of addressing outstanding obligations to pave the way for the resumption of development financing and its allocation to reconstruction priorities, infrastructure, basic services, and productive and developmental projects.
For her part, the Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan (CBS), Amina Mirghani, emphasized the importance of strengthening financial and banking cooperation with the IMF and supporting efforts to achieve financial stability and economic recovery. She noted the importance of coordinating on existing financial matters and creating a conducive environment for resuming cooperation and financing, as well as supporting the banking sector’s role in financing economic activity and productive sectors.
Dr. Fawzi Yousef Al-Hanif affirmed the deep historical ties between Sudan and the IMF, highlighting Sudan’s status as a founding member of the Fund and the importance of continuing cooperation and benefiting from its programs and financing mechanisms.
Both sides agreed on practical steps to enhance cooperation and expand access to the IMF’s programs, particularly in financing development projects, supporting the private sector, and implementing programs targeting low-income groups. They also agreed to continue coordination and follow-up to translate agreements into projects and programs that support recovery, reconstruction, and development.
