The Problem of Sudanese Nationals Stranded at Bole International Airport Resolved Thanks to the Embassy

Addis Ababa – Sudanhorizon – Mariam Abashar
The Sudanese diplomatic mission in Ethiopia has successfully evacuated all Sudanese travelers stranded at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa following the closure of Port Sudan Airport when it was subjected to drone attacks by the Rapid Support Forces.
The “Sudanhorizon,” news website has learned that more than 120 Sudanese transit travelers from several countries via Ethiopian Airlines were stranded at the airport, including children, elderly, and patients.
Sudanhorizon also learned that the Sudanese embassy in Addis Ababa immediately established a follow-up team and promptly made the necessary arrangements for issuing visas and accommodating the stranded individuals in Ethiopian hotels until they could be flown to their destination, Port Sudan Airport.
The embassy also contacted Badr Airlines and successfully transferred passengers from Ethiopian Airlines to Badr Airlines, which doubled the number of its flights to timely bring the stranded passengers home.
The stranded individuals were evacuated through three flights to Port Sudan. The embassy also covered the ticket differences and paid for the visa fees for all the stranded individuals.
Adam Mohammed Ibrahim, a representative of the stranded Sudanese , described the embassy’s attitude on the crisis of the stranded nationals, stating in a statement that the mission displayed a sense of responsibility and “deep belonging”. He added that the mission took the responsibility of addressing the humanitarian situation faced by those stranded at Addis Ababa International Airport after being left stranded due to the stoppage of international flights to Port Sudan Airport. Ethiopian Airlines had suspended its flights to Port Sudan and refused to provide hotel accommodations, demanding that the passengers bear the visa fees, which forced them to stay overnight at the airport under inhumane conditions.
The representative praised the role of the ambassador and the embassy staff, noting that the head of the mission, Ambassador Al-Zein Ibrahim, established a follow-up room and urgently dispatched a representative to assess the situation of the stranded individuals. Through meetings with Ethiopian Airlines, they successfully found solutions after discussions with the aviation authority, leading to the transfer of the stranded individuals to hotels at the embassy’s expense until their evacuation to Sudan.
