The Sudanese Crisis Tops Talks Between Boulos and the Arab League Secretary-General

The Arab League Secretary-General, Nabil Fahmy, held talks at the League’s headquarters in Cairo on Saturday with Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs. The discussions covered several issues, including the war in Sudan.
According to an official statement from the Arab League, both sides agreed on “the importance of continuing coordination and joint work between the League’s General Secretariat and the US side, and exchanging views and assessments regularly, in order to contribute to advancing the political process in Libya, supporting efforts to end the ongoing war in Sudan, alleviating human suffering, and consolidating security and stability in the region.”
Fahmy reiterated the League’s firm position calling for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan, prioritizing wisdom and dialogue, preserving Sudan’s unity and national institutions, and rejecting any infringement on its sovereignty or attempts to divide it.

He also stressed “the need to secure unhindered access for humanitarian aid to all those in need, protecting civilians, and supporting a comprehensive political process that leads to the restoration of security and stability and fulfills the aspirations of the Sudanese people.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed on the importance of continuing coordination and joint work between the League of Arab States and the United States, and exchanging views and assessments regularly. This aims to contribute to advancing the political process in Libya, supporting efforts to end the ongoing war in Sudan, alleviating humanitarian suffering, and consolidating security and stability in the region.
The League of Arab States is one of the five-member mechanism actively mediating the Sudanese crisis, alongside the African Union, IGAD, the European Union, and the United Nations.
