Japan Sends its Envoy to the Horn of Africa to Sudan

The Japanese Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa, Ambassador Shinsuke Shimenzo, arrived in Port Sudan today on Wednesday, in an official visit to the country.

An official discussion session was held between the Sudanese and Japanese Foreign Ministries, where the Sudanese side was headed by Ambassador Omar Issa, Director General of Asian and Arab Affairs, while Ambassador Shimenzo headed the Japanese side.

The meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries in all fields and ways to enhance peace and security in the Horn of Africa region.

Ambassador Omar Issa provided a comprehensive explanation of the developments in the country since the terrorist Rapid Support Militia launched the war on the Sudanese people and their national state on April 15, 2023. He explained the unprecedented atrocities committed by the militia against civilians, especially vulnerable groups of women and children. He also explained the role of external parties supporting the militia in continuing and fueling the war, and expressed thanks and appreciation to Japan for the assistance it provides to Sudan and expected more of it.

For his part, the Japanese envoy stressed his country’s keenness on the stability and unity of Sudan and its readiness to cooperate with the Sudanese government to achieve security and peace. He pledged to continue Japanese support in all fields, especially humanitarian aid. He also announced his country’s readiness to engage in reconstruction and reconstruction projects in Sudan. At the end of the talks, the two sides stressed the friendship and cooperation relations between the two countries and the need to work together to develop them and coordinate between the two sides to overcome the crisis that Sudan is going through.
