UNICEF Inspects Damage from Drone Strikes of Education Warehouses in El-Obeid

El-Obeid – Sudanhorizon

Angelina Kearney, the Country Director for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), accompanied by high level delegation and several government officials, paid field visit to see for herself the extent of the destruction inflicted upon the organization’s warehouses—which store school textbooks and nutritional supplies—at the Ministry of Education in the city of El-Obeid.

The warehouses were recently targeted by drone strikes carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, resulting in the burning of school textbooks and causing damage to the buildings and educational facilities.

Walid Mohammed Hassan, the Acting Director-General of the Ministry of Education in North Kordofan, stated that the visit was intended to assess the damage to the buildings and textbook storage facilities on-site. He noted that the delegation expressed its readiness to support efforts to print school textbooks and provide necessary educational supplies, thereby helping to stabilize the educational process within the state.

He emphasized that UNICEF has played an active role in supporting the education sector in North Kordofan through its ongoing interventions—most notably by providing school bags and support to students, enabling them to continue their education.

He added that the delegation documented the extent of the destruction caused to the warehouses, buildings, and school textbooks, in preparation for submitting reports to the relevant authorities.
