Sudan’s Representative in Geneva Briefs Liechtenstein Officials on Militia Attacks
Geneva – Sudanhorizon
Ambassador Hassan Hamid Hassan, Sudan’s Permanent Representative in Geneva, met with Sabine Monauni, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education, and Sport of the Principality of Liechtenstein. The meeting took place on the sidelines of an annual briefing organized by the Principality for accredited ambassadors, which was also attended by the Prime Minister. During the meeting, Ambassador Hassan conveyed greetings from Sudan’s Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The Ambassador also held a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Christine Lingg, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. During this discussion, he provided an update on the widespread attacks launched by the militia against strategic civilian infrastructure across Sudan, noting that these operations utilized drones launched from within Ethiopian territory.
The Permanent Representative submitted an official memorandum—accompanied by a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation—along with a comprehensive, exclusive report. This report documents, in detail, the transfer of weapons, military equipment, and mercenaries from the United Arab Emirates to camps operated by the terrorist militia within Ethiopian territory.
Ambassador Hassan emphasized that most of the strategic drones recently used to target Sudan were launched from bases in the Ethiopian cities of Bahir Dar and Asosa. He noted that this was confirmed following the downing of several drones and the subsequent analysis of their operational data, which revealed both their launch points and their intended targets. He warned of the gravity of this aggression, which constitutes a blatant violation of the United Nations Charter and the principles of international law. He emphasized that attacks on electricity, water, and other essential service infrastructure are acts of terrorism in every sense—deliberately intended to kill, displace, and terrorize civilians, while further compounding their suffering.
He stressed that the continuation of these hostilities and the destabilization of Sudan would have catastrophic repercussions for the security and stability of the entire region. This remains a risk unless the UN Security Council fulfills its responsibilities regarding the United Arab Emirates—which sponsors the militia—and Ethiopia—which has allowed its territory to be used as a base for targeting Sudan, as well as for training and deploying mercenaries brought from overseas to support the terrorist militia.
It is worth noting that the Principality of Liechtenstein is an independent state, an active member of the United Nations, and a model of parliamentary democracy.
