Sudan’s Ambassador to Eritrea, Osama Ahmed Abdelbari, has revealed that Eritrea has taken supportive measures to assist Sudan. He indicated that the coming period will see further actions, including backing Sudan’s formal complaint within the United Nations and the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council, as well as conducting regional and international outreach to halt the ongoing aggressions.
In an exclusive statement on Tuesday, the Ambassador said: “Eritrea has taken numerous steps to support Sudan. In the near future, this will include backing our complaint at the United Nations and the AU Peace and Security Council, engaging in regional and international diplomacy to stop the attacks, exchanging verified information, and coordinating diplomatic stances to protect civilians and Sudan’s sovereignty—all while working to prevent further escalation and regularly monitoring the outcomes of these efforts.”
In the same context, Ambassador Osama Abdelbari met with the Director-General for African and Middle Eastern Affairs at the Eritrean Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They discussed the Ethiopian aggression against Sudan, as well as the repercussions of targeting vital economic and service-related infrastructure on the lives of civilians and the country’s overall stability.
The Ambassador outlined Sudan’s position, emphasizing that the targeting of such facilities is part of an economic war waged against Sudan—one that exacerbates the suffering of its citizens and undermines recovery efforts. The Eritrean official was also briefed on the complaint filed by Sudan with the UN Security Council and the African Union Peace and Security Council, as well as the diplomatic efforts underway to halt the aggressions and safeguard the country’s sovereignty.
The Ambassador emphasized that Sudan is exercising restraint for the sake of regional stability, while reserving the right to respond at a time and place of its choosing—a decision left to the state’s top leadership, in accordance with the requirements for protecting national security and interests.
He underscored the importance of continued consultation between Sudan and Eritrea regarding current developments, and the need to strengthen diplomatic coordination to serve mutual interests and contribute to the security and stability of the region.
For his part, the Eritrean official expressed Eritrea’s absolute support for Sudan, condemning any actions that undermine Sudan, its unity, and its stability, or that threaten its national sovereignty.
