Dr. Hind Siddiq, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Minerals, stated that Sudan possesses mineral resources that extend well beyond gold—including copper, iron, chromium, nickel, zinc, and various industrial and strategic minerals—and invited international companies to invest in the country’s mining sector.

In a presentation titled “Sudan: More Than Just a Destination for Gold,” delivered on Tuesday at the International Mining and Resources Conference and Exhibition (IMARC 2024) in Sydney, Australia, Dr. Siddiq noted that this diversity offers promising investment opportunities for the sector’s development.

She emphasized that leveraging modern technologies and artificial intelligence for mineral exploration, developing local mining industries, and fostering international partnerships—focused on technology, knowledge transfer, and infrastructure—are key pillars for maximizing the value-added potential of Sudan’s mineral resources.

Dr. Siddiq expressed Sudan’s aspiration to forge “strategic and responsible” investment partnerships with international firms and institutions, while working to create an attractive investment climate that fosters sustainable economic growth.

The Sudanese Geological Research Authority is participating in the conference, represented by its Director General, Consultant Geologist Ahmed Haroun. The delegation, led by the Undersecretary, also includes Mohamed Tahir Omar, Director General of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, and Ahmed Salah Bayoumi, Chargé d’Affaires at the Sudanese Embassy in Australia.

The conference takes place in Sydney from October 27 to 29. The Sudanese participation comes as part of the Ministry of Minerals’ efforts to showcase the country’s mineral potential, promote available investment opportunities, and engage with companies operating in the mining and exploration sectors. The goal is to open avenues for cooperation, facilitate the transfer of technology and expertise, and support projects that generate returns for investors, local communities, and future generations.
