Othman Mirghani: We Expect Intra-Sudanese Dialogue Efforts to Accelerate

Khartoum – Sudanhorizon

Othman Mirghani, spokesperson for the Sudanese Dialogue Groundwork Committee, expects progress towards intra-Sudanese dialogue to accelerate in the coming period following what he described as a fruitful meeting on Sunday with Jaafar Al-Sadiq Al-Mirghani, head of the Democratic Bloc Alliance and deputy leader of the Democratic Unionist Party – Original, along with several bloc leaders in Khartoum.

Mirghani said the meeting provided an opportunity to exchange information and expertise that could help prepare for the dialogue and accelerate the procedures required to bring it to the next stage. He noted that leaders of the Democratic Bloc presented experiences and perspectives he described as rich and valuable, which would become part of the committee’s agenda.

He explained that holding the meeting at a historically significant location, the Garden of Sayyid Ali, carried symbolic meaning related to the return of national issues and the Sudanese agenda to the country. He said bringing the dialogue back to Sudan was one of the committee’s key objectives.

He added that the meeting addressed several issues related to preparing for the dialogue and included an exchange of views on the steps needed to move towards a dialogue capable of addressing long-standing unresolved issues in Sudan’s history and paving the way for the restoration of stability and the state’s normal functioning.

The spokesperson expressed hope that the positive spirit of the meeting would help accelerate intra-Sudanese dialogue, leading to outcomes that meet the aspirations of the Sudanese people, who, he said, have increasingly come to expect results from the dialogue rather than further preparations for it.

Othman Mirghani stressed the importance of continuing meetings with the Democratic Bloc and other political forces, emphasising that all parties share a common responsibility and a single objective: serving Sudan and its people.
