Guterres Regrets Washington’s Failure to Fulfill Obligations and Visa Delay for Al-Burhan

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed his regret over the United States’ failure—as the UN host country—to fulfill its obligations under the Headquarters Agreement, specifically regarding the resulting delay in issuing an entry visa to the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to participate in the UN General Assembly session in New York.
These remarks were made during a meeting on Thursday between Guterres and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mohi El-Din Salem, on the sidelines of the current General Assembly session.
The Minister briefed the UN official on the latest developments in Sudan, reaffirming the government’s commitment to continued cooperation with the Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy and with international and regional organizations. He also emphasized the provision of all necessary facilities to ensure the smooth movement of relief convoys and the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need across the country.
For his part, Guterres called for an end to the war and the suffering of the Sudanese people, stressing that dialogue is the optimal path to resolving the conflict and achieving peace. He also commended the cooperation and facilitation provided by the Sudanese government to deliver relief to those affected by the war.
