Industry Minister Discusses Shipping Companies’ Challenges and Export Growth

Minister of Industry and Trade Mohasin Ali Yacoub has affirmed the government’s commitment to supporting productive and service sectors linked to exports.

During a meeting with the management teams of Red Sea Shipping Company, Sudan Oilseeds Company, and Sudan Cotton Company, she stressed the importance of coordination between state institutions and national companies to address obstacles hindering production, marketing, and transportation. These efforts aim to improve the competitiveness of Sudanese products in regional and international markets, according to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) on Sunday.

The meeting emphasized the need for joint efforts between the ministry and the companies to resolve existing problems and develop practical mechanisms to increase production and exports, strengthen the companies’ contribution to economic growth, and boost the country’s foreign currency earnings.

Held at the ministry’s headquarters in Khartoum, the meeting was part of the ministry’s efforts to find solutions to the challenges facing national companies and explore ways to increase their contribution to the national economy and strengthen Sudanese exports.

The minister received a briefing from company representatives on the main challenges affecting their operations, including an administrative vacuum and the destruction of most of their assets by the rebel militia. They also presented proposals to improve performance, increase production, enhance maritime transport services, and strengthen export supply chains.

For its part, Red Sea Shipping Company affirmed its readiness to help facilitate the movement of exports and imports and develop maritime transport services in support of smoother foreign trade.

Sudan Oilseeds Company outlined plans to increase the value added to agricultural products and expand exports of oils and their derivatives. Meanwhile, Sudan Cotton Company stressed the importance of providing the necessary support to the cotton sector, describing it as one of the key contributors to export earnings.
