Sudanese Dialogue Groundwork Committee Meets with Egyptian Ambassador to Sudan

Khartoum – Sudan Horizon

Othman Mirghani, spokesperson for The Sudanese Dialogue Groundwork Committee, said the committee met with Egypt’s Ambassador to Sudan, Yasser Sorour, and his deputy to discuss prospects for joint consultations between the two sides in support of the dialogue process.

In statements on Saturday, Mirghani explained that Egypt hosts large numbers of Sudanese nationals affected by the war, alongside numerous political groups based in Cairo. He stressed that the participation of these political groups in the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue would have a significant impact on the process.

He also noted that the Egyptian ambassador provided the committee with important advice on mechanisms for engaging with external parties.

Mirghani affirmed that the meeting marks the beginning of cooperation between the committee and the Arab Republic of Egypt. He expressed hope that Cairo would play a prominent role in facilitating the dialogue, making a meaningful contribution to Sudan’s stability.

He stressed that Sudan’s stability is one of the key principles guiding relations between the two countries, noting that political stability in Sudan would, in turn, support broader political stability in Egypt and across the Arab and African regions.

Mirghani further emphasized that Egypt’s call for dialogue is not new, pointing out that Cairo has long advocated Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue and has invited Sudanese parties to participate on several occasions. These efforts include the conference held in July 2024, which brought together, for the first time, all Sudanese political and civil society forces in Cairo.
