Engineer Admiral Ibrahim Jaber Ibrahim, a member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Assistant Commander-in-Chief, chaired the High Coordination Committee with the United Nations meeting today (Tuesday) in his office in Port Sudan.
The Acting Minister of Culture and Information, Dr Graham Abdel Qader, stated in a press release that the meeting reviewed a report from the Coordination Office regarding Resolution 1591 issued in 2005, concerning the UN Security Council’s Darfur Expert Panel, in preparation for the team’s visit to the country. He noted that the report highlighted positive cooperation between the Coordination Office and the UN team.
Dr. Graham indicated that the report presented the government’s efforts to facilitate daily life across the country and all state activities. It also included efforts related to various service-related issues and efforts in different states. The report pointed out that the rebellion challenged the international community’s will and the UN Security Council’s resolutions, particularly Resolution 2736.
He added that the report addressed the siege of El-Fasher city and indiscriminate shelling, which presents a flagrant challenge to the Security Council’s decisions, especially Resolution 2736. The meeting also discussed humanitarian assistance and the government’s efforts toward peace initiatives.
He stated that the meeting reaffirmed the government’s ongoing commitment to accountability, ending impunity, and protecting civilians. He noted that the Coordination Office confirmed its commitment to cooperating with the Expert Panel and providing all necessary support.
The Attorney General presented a report on Sudan’s participation in the 57th Human Rights Council session in Geneva, highlighting the efforts of the Sudanese delegation and the media activities accompanying the delegation’s involvement.
