Sudan Condemns Houthi Targeting of Makkah, Reaffirms Solidarity with Saudi Arabia

The Sudanese government condemned the Houthi group’s targeting of Makkah with a drone, Wednesday. The government has reaffirmed that targeting Makkah and the Sacred House—the Qibla for Muslims and the holiest place on earth—constitutes a heinous assault, a flagrant violation of the sanctity of Islamic Holy Sites, and a highly dangerous provocation to the sentiments of all Muslims.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation emphasized that the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques and the Holy Sites, as well as the safety and security of those visiting them, are inviolable and must not be threatened. It further stated that exposing them to hostile acts or using them within the context of conflicts and disputes represents a dangerous and condemnable escalation.
The statement added, “The Government of Sudan affirms the necessity of respecting the sanctity of holy sites and sparing them the risks of escalation, thereby preserving the security and stability of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the region as a whole.”

The Government of Sudan expressed its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, affirming its support for the Kingdom’s legitimate right to take whatever measures it deems necessary to protect its security and territorial integrity, safeguard the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques, and protect the pilgrims
