Khartoum – Sudanhorizon

Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, Amna Mirghani Hassan Al-Toum, inaugurated the headquarters of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) in Khartoum.

In a statement issued by the Central Bank of Sudan on Saturday, the bank said the unit’s return to Khartoum comes after it continued to carry out its duties and responsibilities from the city of Atbara in River Nile State throughout the war, maintaining the continuity of its operations and its role in the country’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing framework.

The governor and her accompanying delegation inspected the facilities and arrangements completed at the headquarters, which enabled the unit to return and resume its operations from the capital.

Al-Toum emphasized the importance of the Financial Intelligence Unit’s role in protecting the financial system from financial crimes. The unit is responsible for implementing measures to combat money laundering, terrorism financing, and the proliferation of weapons, as well as strengthening national and international cooperation and coordination in this area.

The inauguration of the headquarters represents an important milestone in the unit’s operations and sends a message affirming the recovery of state institutions and their continued ability to carry out their responsibilities and activities from Khartoum State.
