Joint Forces of Armed Struggle Movements Begin Reviewing Legal Status of Detained Members

The Legal Department of the Joint Forces of the Armed Struggle Movements, in coordination with the relevant judicial, police, and military authorities, has begun deploying legal committees to several regions of Sudan to conduct a review and assessment of the legal status of its detained members.

In a press statement issued today (Friday), a summary of which was carried by the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), the Joint Forces said the move comes as part of its leadership’s attention to the legal status of its members and its commitment to upholding the rule of law and strengthening the principles of discipline and institutional oversight.

The Joint Forces explained that the committees will conduct field assessments and reviews covering convicted individuals, detainees facing legal proceedings, and those currently undergoing trial. They will also examine their legal status and the various stages of the proceedings against them, while verifying that such procedures are sound and consistent with the provisions of the law.

It said the initiative reaffirms the Joint Forces leadership’s commitment to the rule of law, respect for legal procedures and safeguards, and monitoring the status of its members before the competent authorities. This, it added, is intended to ensure the protection of their rights in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and to strengthen the values of responsibility and institutional discipline within the force.

The Legal Department noted that the committees’ work will include legal documentation and follow-up, coordination with the competent judicial authorities, and taking the necessary legal measures within their jurisdiction, in a manner that contributes to resolving the legal situations of members of the Joint Forces.
